Graduation FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

The ceremony will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Grand Canyon University, which is located at 3300 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85017. For more information about our ceremony, visit our Graduation page.
Check-in for graduates takes place from 11 a.m.– noon. Students who have not received their caps and gowns, may pick up these items during check-in if prearranged. Rehearsal will begin promptly at 12:15 p.m. For more information on this topic, visit our Ceremony page.
The ceremony is expected to last two hours.
Students will check in at the main entrance/lobby area of Grand Canyon University Arena.
Doors into the hall will open for guests at 2 p.m.
Graduates should wear business casual attire.
  • Guys’ suggested attire: slacks and a button-down shirt, dress shoes and optional tie.
  • Girls’ suggested attire: dress, slacks or skirt with a dress shirt and dress shoes.

Please note that any dresses or skirts must be the appropriate length (it must at least reach your thumbs when your arms are completely extended down to your side). If you are planning on wearing heels, please ensure they are 3″ or less since there are stairs you will need to walk up and down in order to access the stage.

The seating is open, but we will only have certain sections open for parents to sit in. Staff on hand will be directing parents and guests to the proper sections.
Parking will be available in the arena parking garages, located at (1) 33rd Ave and Camelback, just to the west of the arena, and (2) 29th Ave and Camelback, just east of the arena. For more information on where to park, please refer to your graduation packet.
If you have RSVP’d and have completed all graduation requirements (credits and standardized testing) before the week of graduation, you will be able to pick up your diploma at the conclusion of the ceremony. If you do not complete all requirements, you will not be eligible to walk in the ceremony or receive your diploma until all graduation requirements have been met. To make sure you have met the graduation requirements, please contact your guidance counselor.

All other students who graduate and do not attend the ceremony will receive their diplomas by mail.

Approximately 325 graduates are expected to participate in the 2017 graduation ceremony.
No, names are read as graduates cross the stage, based on the order in which they are seated.
Concessions will be open for students to purchase snacks between 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Students are advised to eat prior to checking in between 11 a.m. – noon. Parents are advised to eat before the doors open at 2 p.m. A list of local restaurants is provided in the graduation packet.
